Monsters invasion! - Creoda & huxhux counter attack a lvl 7

Where to begin? Certainly not the beginning, promises of Black Gems, fortune and fame seem so long ago. The ambush by MadFox which wiped my army from the face of the Earth a few weeks ago seems reasonable, but perhaps too bitter a start. Perhaps with yesterday…..
Sire, “The prophetess saw dark times coming into our empire. The dark mages envy our prosperity and gained a powerful spell that allows controlling the dwellers of the dark Ruins. We should be ready to the invasion of Monsters that will last 1 day. I hope they do not have enough magical power to continue sent attacks to us!”; ah a monsters invasion…. I have eagerly awaited this event since I started being serious about hunting ruins…
The first attack came a little over an hour after the prophetess alerted us… fortunately we were able to get our army to meet the monsters and we easily disposed of them. Unfortunately all of our explorers were out in search of ruins… could someone from our clan search out this new foe? Vwarrior came to our aid and was able to find the source of the attack and eliminate it. No sooner had we defended this attack than another began on a distant city to the West. No time to send troops, we were defeated but explorers were sent to a surprisingly distant kingdom, this was a strong foe… too strong for us with our limited army after our recent bitter defeat. We reported the domain to our clan but no-one responded to our call to arms…. No time to ponder, a new attack was launched, again from a distant kingdom, explorers were sent, defence was sent… AH! A second victory! ALAS! Our strategists had miscalculated, troops were lost in the valiant defence, but, no time to waste, a new attack was immanent, this time no miscalculations, they were eliminated without losses! A counter attack was launched and the enemy vanquished! It was late, gates were closed, troops allowed to recover in safety.
A new dawn. Vwarrior had been scouting, many potential threats identified, gates were opened, explorers sent. Too many ruins posing a threat to our cities were identified… 4 5’s against our capital, 3 5’s and 2 6’s against our city in the West, and….. 1 5, 6, and…. a 7… yes, a 7! against our city in the east! Woe! What could be done against this 7 that our clan mate sweezy101 alerted us to? Surely the mighty huxhux could assist us… but, alas, his wife is new with baby and he is away… messengers were sent with instructions to alert us as soon as huxhux could grant us an audience. In the meantime, we countered the monsters eliminating 3 5’s and a 6 with the assistance of Vwarrior and non-allied players ravko and Ephialtis eliminated another threatening 6 and 5… the monsters were undeterred countering with a victory from another distant kingdom against our city to the west. Our ally SirGuest was eager to tackle some foes with us but, alas, we had too few troops to attack with both Vwarrior and SirGuest. We launched a counter offensive with Vwarrior… but wait… word from huxhux! He would assist us in the east!
What to do, remove the weaker 5 and 6 or go after the 7?!? Certainly the 7 posed the greatest threat and reward but could we manage it alone?!? Our strategists pondered… 50% loss of both armies… this was, perhaps, too much to consider. However, if we used mercenaries we could potentially reduce the losses to 10% (if we were lucky)…. Should we cancel the counter offensive as huxhux implored us? No, we would wait ten minutes for our troops to vanquish the foe and then turn our attention upon the 7! On the return, calculations were made, mercenaries were hired, magic was sought, gear for heros was considered! Could we reduce losses? It was decided! Hire and use as many mercenaries as possible before sending, most of, our armies… it was decided our flying units would be left behind… too large a risk to send them with the massive numbers of archers our foe possessed! The attack was launched… but wait!... more news! The prophetess informed us that the monster invasion would continue for at least one more day… and she was right! A new attack, on a new city, in the east! Should we cancel the attack on the 7 and defend?!? This was tricky… we didn’t know what losses we would face. Did our strategists have it right? Would we win the eve at the 7? Our strategist have been wrong, huxhux reminded us of the time he lost a third of his archers due to their miscalculations! However, we had previously lost two Salt Lakes to our foes... thus, our resolve was strong, take this 7 before someone else could! The moment came, our nerves were frayed. Word came… our mercenaries were slaughtered! This was expected… however, they fought bravely, eliminating more monsters than we could have hoped for! Our armies arrived, eliminated the foe, and did so unscathed! Joy! Victory was ours!
Alas, the attack behind our lines remained…. And so, the level 7 eliminated we returned to counter attack and attempt to defend against the continued monster invasion!
Time to rejoice at taking the 7 would have to wait, for now...
