Apart from the mails, it would be nice to have some sort of instant chat between all players, between allies and between clans.
Maybe a global chat with a clans section. Allies could still do PMs because its more personal between players I guess.

And hopefully a whisper along with that

As long as global chat could be switched off. My experience with other games is that global chat generally becomes unbearably childish.
