you see the name on the left where it says "Author"? That is his name in the game. So once your playing the game,

Click: "New Message"
in the "to" box type: Larken
in the subject box type: Mentor/Apprentice
in the Message area type: I would like to be your apprentice. Can you be my mentor?
Click: "send"

Once this is completed, you have to wait for him to reply to your mail or invite you as an apprentice.
