Attacks by lower ranked players

I've just been attacked by someone a little smaller than be but who happens to be a rank lower and I'm finding it frustrating that I can't do anything to retaliate. Surely if somebody attacks another player then the defending player should be able to attack back for some period of time regardless of rank given the lower ranked player initiated the war, as it is at the moment the higher ranked player is limited to either losing troops if he defends or losing resources if he doesn't and has no way to get compensation for those losses from the attacking player since he can't attack back.
Not only that but even though none of the attacking troops survive he still got a bunch of faction loyalty points whereas since I was defending I didn't even get any of those.

Well, as for me, I really like that a weak player (like me) cannot be attacked by a stronger player. When I played the games with no rank rule like this I was just not able to play, had no chance to develop at all.

I don't mind lower ranked players having protection as long as they don't attack first but as it is at present it is exploitable which I'll demonstrate later on in the post, you could prevent lower ranked players from attacking higher ranked players or you could make it so that if they do then the player they attacked has a week or something to be able to retaliate a bit like the renegade thing you have. It is ridiculous that a lower ranked player is able to attack freely without any risk of retribution, if I hadn't been online to move my troops about then he would have got a bunch of free resources, as it was he lost more in troops than I did since I was online but I still took losses and I have no way of getting the lost resources back from him.
It's actually made worse by the fact that they even have an option to withdraw attacks right up until just 1 minute before so they could attack a city with few defending troops and then spy just before to see if it has had reinforcements and withdraw if it has, if I wasn't online to move troops or didn't have enough time then to move them then they can let the attack continue and grab resources with no threat of being attacked back, even worse would be if a group of slightly smaller players sent attacks to all cities and then I'd only have the option of defending one if I was online since we are almost evenly matched which gives them free attacks on every other city and they could withdraw from the defended city to avoid losses unless I time the reinforcements to arrive with less than one minute to go which requires being online at exactly the right time to send them and they are able to do all this free in the knowledge that there is absolutely nothing I can do to retaliate.

same opinion here, if someone 1* attacks you you should get something like renegade, so if u a 1* attack a higher rank
then that higher rank can attack you for the period of 7 days or something similar.

Well, I'd build forts and towers if I've the res. Even some counterspies.

There are a few problems with the current system that lets lower ranked players attack higher ones with no threat of retaliation and I'm surprised they are not being used yet but they almost certainly will as the number of players increases, a low level player for example could continuously send single units attacks against someone all day to annoy the hell out of a player by giving them a red warning permanently on without any threat of being attacked in return if the player starts ignoring the red warning because it is always on he becomes an easy target for other players, an ignore attack box would be useful for combatting this trick.
A group of slightly lower ranked players could join together to attack every city simultaneously of a slightly higher ranked player, since the armies are almost the same size the higher ranked player can only realistically defend a single city, the lower ranked players check which city he is defending 2 minutes before the attacks land and withdraw from the one that is being defended and every other gets raided free of charge with no chance for the higher ranked player to retaliate and the attackers get lot of free resources and no losses if they send healers to resurrect the losses from towers and fortifications.

That's why u got allies and friends and some fortifications.
Also as 5* or 4* player your army is easily 10 times bigger than the rlowerranked player (unless you jsut leveled up).
So for edefending if u got a magic tower and some assasins its gg for attackers, don't even need ur main army and aslong as u got ressurector and the specialistaion even less loss for you and the 3 low rank players
have no army left to go ruins.

Don't you think that if someone LOWER than you in level attacks you that it shouldn't be anything to post about?
Surely you should have a high enough defence to deter them, or maybe a high enough counter spy to scare them, maybe even a big enough army that you can move about to defeat them.
Come on. A complaint about a lower level attacking you?
Learn from your mistakes!

i also agree with this, if someone attacks you, you should be able to attack back.
I have this one star ranked guy who keeps attacking me and there is nothing i can do about it because i'm higher ranked than him. It's driving me insane.
